I continued work on the Vertical Stabilizer rear spar the past couple days, match drilling the Rear Spar Caps and rear spar and getting a bunch of parts deburred. The plans have you drill every fourth hole and cleco as you go, then go back and drill the rest of the holes. The best part about it, I had some help :-).
On Friday, Dennis and Heather came over and brought the kids. Of course I had to get Noah and Zoe to help me out. Zoe was busy watching Frozen 2, but Noah seemed like he was bored so I asked him to put on his shoes and come out to the garage because I needed his help with something. Then I got the correct twist drill set up in the drill press and told him I needed him to help me drill a hole and put the cleco in. His face lit up! So I got everything lined up and turned on the press and he pulled down on the lever to drill the hole. I had to help him with cleco since the pliers are a bit too big for his hand. Then of course I had to make sure he signed his work and got a picture. When we went back inside, he was jumping around the house so excited he got to help build the plane.
Next of course was Zoe. She was a little hesitant at first, concerned that the drill was going to be loud. So I turned on the drill while she covered her ears and then let her slowly take her hands back so she could see that my drill press isn’t very loud. Once she realized it wouldn’t be loud, she was much more eager. Just like with Noah, I lined up the drill and had her pull the handle then sign her work. She was almost as excited as Noah.
Finally, Robin and Lee came over on Saturday. Lee bought the toolbox practice kit from Van’s and we were both itching to put that together and get to building more on the airplane. Unfortunately, the toolbox requires 3/32 clecos, which have shipped but haven’t arrived yet. So Lee and I worked on getting all the parts for the next few steps deburred, the rest of the rear spar holes match drilled (the ones that take a 3/16 drill at least), and then got the garage organized. It was super nice to have help with getting things organized.
