It didn’t take long, but I made my significant boo-boo. Page 6-10 step 6 has you machine countersink a bunch of #30 holes to accept 1/8″ flush rivets. Well I wasn’t paying close enough attention and made two mistakes in one. First I used the #40 countersink so the cutter pilot wasn’t properly fit. Beacuse of this, the countersunk holes had a horrible finish. But even worse, the first hole I cut WAY too deep, so the rivet doesn’t sit anywhere near flush. Just the bad finish could probably be cleaned up using the correct countersink cutter, but with both issues I decided to order a replacement part from Vans. Unfortunately that means the build is on hold for a few days while I wait for the replacement.
